Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed at the thought of making homemade desserts and treats for your family? Of course you do, we all do. With proper planning and preparation you can wipe that feeling away.
This is a great time of year to bake. The weather is getting cooler and your home is closed up against the cold. Having the aroma of fresh baked treats in the house will be a welcome addition. You'll be a big hit with your family and any friends that just "happen" to stop in for a visit.
Holiday time is such a busy time in our lives. Between the shopping and decorating, there isn't much time left to do baking. Starting now with one or two treats a week, gets your freezer full and your family excited.
It is best to stick with recipes that aren't too involved if you are making them ahead of time. Making those cheesecakes that everyone loves is a very time consuming process but well worth the effort. Pick out your favorite cheesecake recipe and make one or two and freeze them. Be sure to store them tightly wrapped in foil. I take it one step further and put my cakes in an extra large zipper bag before I freeze them.
Breads are another option for pre-holiday baking. Mix up and bake some of your favorites like pumpkin bread, banana bread or even corn bread. These freeze well and are a welcome addition to breakfast for your overnight guests. You can also make these bread recipes into muffins and freeze them individually, taking out only what you need each time.
The cost of homemade baked goods doesn't have to be a strain on your weekly shopping budget. With pre-planning you can pick up all you need from your grocery store when they have their sales. This time of the year there is always flour, sugar, butter on sale. Stock up and you'll be ready to start your baking.
Making your life simpler around the holidays or just about any time of the year is what it's all about. Your family will love the taste of these homemade treats and you'll feel satisfied knowing that you made them yourself. Have fun baking!
